Os Açores - The Azores

Vou começar por falar da minha terra , ou seja, os Açores.

São nove ilhas no meio do Oceano Atlântico localizadas a 1300 km a oeste do continente português, no oceano Atlântico com uma área de 2247 km quadrados.

O arquipélago divide-se em três grupos:

O grupo oriental constituido pelas ilhas de São Miguel e Santa Maria e os ilhéus das Formigas.
O grupo central constituido pelas ilhas do Faial, Pico, São Jorge, Terceira e Graciosa e finalmente o grupo ocidental é formado pelas ilhas Flores e Corvo.

História :

As ilhas foram descobertas por marinheiros portugueses por volta de 1427. Nos anos 1430 e 1440, os portugueses e flamengos habitaram as ilhas. Entre os anos 1580 e 1640 as ilhas foram ocupadas pelos espanhóis e foram palco de vários combates navais entre os portugueses, os ingleses e os espanhóis.

Como Chegar:

Existem ligações aéreas regulares (cerca de 2 horas de vôo) entre Lisboa e três aeroportos dos Açores situados em Ponta Delgada (ilha de São Miguel), Angra do Heroísmo (ilha Terceira) e Horta (ilha do Faial).
Ponta Delgada tem, também, ligações regulares com o Funchal (Madeira) e, na época alta, com Porto e Frankfurt (Alemanha). Para além disso ainda existem vôos charter ligam América e Canada ao aeroporto das Lajes.
Além de existir vôos charter de Gotemburgo, Estocolmo e Copenhaga para o Aeroporto de Ponta Delgada.

Curiosidades :

Há quem afirme que estas ilhas faziam parte da misteriosa Atlântida. Certamente que nunca ouviu falar de um sítio onde há lagoas azuis e verdes, lenda de lágrimas de um príncipe de olhos verdes e de uma princesa de olhos azuis que muito choraram por não poder casar.
Também só nos Açores pode comer um prato tradicional cozido em panelas de ferro nos vapores quentes das águas minerais que brotam do solo.
No fundo do mar escondem-se tesouros de fauna e de flora e, quem sabe, tesouros de outra estirpe, pois por aqui se cruzavam as rotas das antigas naus que faziam o comércio entre o Novo e o Velho Mundo.

I going to start for speaking of my land, that is, the Azores.

They are nine islands in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and located et the 1300 km from the west of Continent Portuguese, with an area of 2247 km squared.

The archipelago is divided in three groups:

The eastern group for the islands of São Miguel and Santa Maria and the ilhéus of the Ants.
The central group by the islands do Faial, Pico and São Jorge, Terceira and Graciosa and finally group occidental is formed by the islands Flores and Corvo.
The biggest city of the islands is Ponta Delgada, in the island of São Miguel who is also the biggest island of the archipelago.

The islands are of volcanic origin, except Santa Maria. The point highest of the archipelago and Portugal is placed in the peak of Pico and measures height 2351 meters.

To arrive:

Regular aerial linkings (about 2 flight hours) between Lisbon and Porto , in the three situated airports of the Açores in Ponta Delgada (island of São Miguel), Angra do Heroísmo (Terceira ) and Horta exist (island of the Faial).
Ponta Delgada has, also, regular linkings with Funchal (Madeira ) e, at the time high, with Frankfurt (Germany). For more flights exist to charter bind America and Canada to the airport of the Angra do heroismo and Ponta Delgada . Besides existing flights to charter of Gotemburg, Estocolm and Copenhaga for the Airport of Ponta Delgada.

History:

The islands had been discovered by Portuguese sailors for 1427 return. In years 1430 and 1440, the Portuguese and flamengos had inhabited the islands.
Between years 1580 and the 1640 islands they had been occupied by the Spanhish and they had been palco of some naval combats between the Portuguese, the English and the Spanish.

Curiosity´s:

It has who affirms that these islands were part of the mysterious Atlantis.
Certainly that never it heard to speak of a small place where has blue and green lagoons, legend of tears of a prince of green eyes and a princess of blue eyes that much had cried for not being able to marry.

Also in the Azores only can eat a traditional plate stew in pans of iron of the mineral waters that sprout of the ground.

In the deep one of the sea treasures of fauna and flora and, who knows, treasures of another lineage are hidden, therefore for if they crossed the routes of the old vessels that made the commerce between the New and the Old World here.
